The movie started with a really gripping story; It’s a real nail biter. I was on the edge of my seat! It starts off in a small town somewhere in America, following the story of a man – let’s call him Tom – who is fed up with being alone. He purchases a sex robot which successfully turns his world upside down.
The film focused on the development of his relationship with his doll; it’s a romance between a lonely, middle-aged man trying to take solace in a fantasy. He was at a loss, and it felt like he was at an emotional rock bottom. Until the doll came along and changed everything.
The doll brought humor to the story, too. The jokes and gags were definitely unexpected, but it wasn’t out of place. For me, the movie successfully combined drama and vibrators comedy – a nice surprise.
But not everyone in the town was happy about Tom and his robot – violence, both physical and verbal, ensues. The drama that unfolded felt all too familiar, and I was soon cheering on Tom and his beloved robot, willing them to find a way to make it work.
And of course, we can’t talk about this movie without a mention of the soundtrack! It was great, the sort of melodramatic, pop-oriented feel good music that I love.
All in all, this film is definitely worth watching. I left the theater in awe. It’s one of those movies that sticks with you, and it made me think about our own perceptions of relationships, love and life in general.
The sequel of the movie is said to be released in the next couple of months, and I’m already looking forward to it. I’m expecting a lot of plot twists, more comedy and drama and a whole lot of fun.
I can’t recommend this movie enough. Thanks to my friend for introducing it to me and for convincing me to watch it – I’m glad I did. I’d love to know what your thoughts are on this movie, don’t hesitate to share them with me!
I’m sure there’ll be plenty of discussions about the actual film when it’s released since the topic is quite controversial. It’s not everyday people talk about sex toys robots and kind of relationships. I assume a lot of the conversations will be focused on the distinction between the virtual and the real world.
The actual sex doll itself was definitely the star of the film. Watching Tom form a relationship with it made me wonder about the implications this form of love could have on society. Is the artificial love generated from a doll really enough to fill that humanly feeling of intimacy and connection?
The movie also questions if it’s actually possible to find a connection with someone if you’re feeling isolated and lonely. Can relationships based entirely on concepts like loneliness, vulnerability and understanding be enough to make up for the lack of real human contact?
It’ll be interesting to see if those questions will actually be answered in the follow-up movie or if they’ll be left unexplored. Either way, it’s still really thought provoking and worth watching.
The more I think about it, the more I’m looking forward to the new movie. Can’t wait to see what else the franchise has to offer. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see…
